2017 Guide To Black Friday Deals & Sales

The Complete Guide To Black Friday 2017
Black Friday 2017 is approaching fast, and it’s the best time of year to scoop up some great bargains on everything from toys to tech. The USA’s biggest retailers like Walmart, Target, and Kohl’s - to name just a few - look forward to Thanksgiving as their busiest time of year. But although this shopper’s holiday continues to gain popularity, there are many who avoid the hectic crowds it draws: understandable, but that’s where we come in.
At BlackFriday.com we think everyone should have a piece of the action, so we’ve put together The Complete Guide to Black Friday 2017 to arm you with the information you’ll need to navigate the biggest shopping day of the year. Read on for all you need to know about store opening times, predictions, and the best deals this Black Friday.
When is Black Friday 2017?
Black Friday is on the day after Thanksgiving. Black Friday 2017 will be on November 24.
Black Friday 2017 falls on Friday Nov. 24, a day earlier than last year, which means you have one extra day to do your Christmas shopping. A lot of stores get a head start on the sales though, with some introducing pre-Black Friday deals to entice consumers in advance of the big day.
Although we can try to predict their release, nobody knows until the ads officially drop what stores have planned for this year. Generally though, a few Black Friday deals start leaking as early as October, and things really heat up in the first week of November.
The True Value ad was the first to the post in 2017, with holiday gift guides from the likes of Kmart, Amazon and Macy’s landing around the same time, too.
If you’re eager to be in the know this year, our advice is to follow a dedicated feed on your social channels, or get email alerts when prices for the products you’re interested in drop. We’ll be updating our Twitter, Facebook and sending out emails when the big ads come out (with no spammy extras) so feel free to follow along.
Store Opening Times
Thanksgiving & Black Friday Store Hours 2017 have yet to be announced by most stores, but we’ll be updating our list of opening times as the news rolls in. For now, here’s a list of predicted opening hours for a handful of the top stores based on last year:
Walmart: Open 6pm Thanksgiving; Open Black Friday
Target: Open 6pm Thanksgiving; Open Black Friday
Kohl's: Open 6pm Thanksgiving; Open Black Friday
Best Buy: Open 5pm Thanksgiving; Open Black Friday
Macy's: Open 5pm on Thanksgiving; Open Black Friday
Predictions for Black Friday 2017
There is plenty of data for predicting what will happen in the Black Friday sales, so we’ve pulled from previous years’ statistics at BlackFriday.com as well as reliable trend reporting to come up with some interesting insights:
1. Online shopping will continue to beat out in-store
Last year was a record year for ecommerce, with 44% of consumers shopping online - even more than in brick-and-mortar locations, which was estimated at just 40%. Smart stores know where and how their customers are buying, so we predict online will continue to grow this year, with more and bigger deals accessible through the world wide web than ever before.
2. Hatchimals and Star Wars Top Best Sellers Again
Back in September, the US’ biggest toy retailer Walmart topped their list of most popular toy predictions with Hatchimals and Star Wars merchandise for the second year running. Also featuring in the tally was family game Speak Out!, last year’s runaway hit, and the exclusive-to-Walmart Frozen Sleigh. Newer favorites are set to include Fingerlings, as well as stuffed toy FurReal Roarin’ Tyler. Read the full release, and our last year’s predictions to see if we got it right!
3. Most Black Friday Ads will drop in the 2nd week of November
According to our stats from last year, the biggest week of ad drops came in the second full week of November, with the second-most coming the 7 days before that. With just one day separating this year’s date from last, we have no reason to think the trend will change for 2017 so mark your calendar now.
How to Prepare
When getting ready for Black Friday 2017, it’s always good advice to have a checklist of stores and specific items you’re looking for, so you don’t get distracted or lost in the melee. Researching your purchases and comparing prices in advance will result in the biggest savings possible.
That said, most buyers will end up with at least one purchase they didn’t plan on, so don’t beat yourself up if that mini popcorn maker was too much to resist!
