A Hungarian Holiday Treat

Braided Nutella Bread for Christmas

I would like to share a wonderful treat that adults and kids love all the same. We use to make the sweet bread with pecan or poppy seeds, but this new version with Nutella just won over my family and friends. It is always a big hit not only on Christmas day but on all the other holidays. So from my family to yours, here is my beloved recipe:

Braided Nutella sweet bread:

For the dough:

650 g all purpose flower

2.5 dl milk

2 tbs sugar

25g instant yeast

3 egg yolks

1 whole egg

60 g of powdered sugar

2 tbs coconut oil

1 teaspoon salt

For the filling:

2 tbs of coconut oil

1 jar of Nutella

For the dough:

Pour the milk in a pot and warm it up to look warm. Add the sugar and mix it until it melts. Add the yeast and let is sit.

Mix the rest of the ingredients (I use kitchen aid, it makes everything so much easier) in a mixing bowl. Once the yeast has risen, mix it into the bowl and mix the dough until it separates from the bowl. It reminds me of pizza dough, that is the consistency you should shoot for. You might need to add some more flower, just make sure to add it in small amounts. Once the dough is ready, cut it up into six equal pieces, put them in small ziplock bags, place them into a plastic container and cover it up. Let it rest for 30 minutes.

Once the dough has risen, roll the first dough out into a rectangle shape, as big as a baking pan. Paint the melted coconut oil with a baking brush all over the dough and than get two big tablespoons of Nutella and spread it all over the though, where the whole thing is covered up. Roll it up.

Do that with the other 2 dough. Once you are ready with that, braid them up and place them into a pan. Make sure you spray the pan with oil spray or spread butter or coconut oil all over pan.

Do the same with the left over 3 dough. Please it into the pan. Break an egg, mix it up and spread it on top of both bread.

Please pan into preheated oven and bake it for 30 minutes on 350F.

Enjoy this delicious sweet treat. I hope you give it a try.

I wish you a very Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays.

Sincerely,

Henriett Hajdu
